Fujifilm asks photographers to vote on its next three ‘dream lenses’

Here is something you do not see often: a camera manufacturer asking the public which lenses it should build. Fujifilm has hosted a live “Focus on Glass” event on YouTube, putting forward 14 lens concepts and inviting photographers to vote on which should become reality. Three will be chosen. Details are on Fujifilm’s site, with the event on Fujifilm’s YouTube channel.

It is a smart piece of engagement, and more than a marketing gesture. Lens development is expensive and slow, and manufacturers routinely misjudge what photographers actually want — the gap between the lenses that get made and the lenses people ask for on forums is a long-running frustration in this industry. Putting 14 concepts in front of the people who would buy them is a reasonable way to close it.

There is a hard-headed commercial logic too. Fujifilm has built its brand on a relationship with its users that other manufacturers struggle to match, and asking them to shape the roadmap reinforces exactly that. It also gives Fujifilm genuine demand data before committing to tooling.

The timing is interesting. Fujifilm has not launched an X Series camera so far in 2026, and the X-T6 has reportedly been postponed. Turning attention to glass — and to a participatory event — keeps the community engaged through a quiet period for bodies. Whether that is deliberate or coincidental, it is effective.

Our suggestion to readers: if you shoot Fujifilm and there is a focal length you have been waiting years for, this is a rare opportunity to say so and have it counted. We would be curious to see whether the votes favour fast primes, compact pancakes or the long telephoto end where X-mount remains thinner than it could be.

Fujifilm Focus on Glass: what to know

What it is: a Fujifilm live event held on YouTube, presenting 14 lens concepts for public vote. Outcome: three of the concepts are to be chosen for development. How to take part: voting details are availableished specifications, mounts or timescales for the concepts, and selection does not guarantee a production timeline
